The Miami Dolphins went into the season facing a huge question: Could an offensive line made up of five new starters even allow them to compete?

Offensive lines need time to jell, to work together and establish camaraderie. This seemed close to impossible with so many new players and some veterans changing positions.

Despite all of the changes and injuries along the way, the Dolphins made this transition. They’re 5-4, mixing some top-level showings with a pair of last-minute defeats in winnable games. They could easily be 7-2, but gave up touchdowns in the final minute in falling to the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.

With more injuries, they’ll start their fifth offensive line combination of the season on Thursday night when they are hosts to the Buffalo Bills (5-4) in an AFC East divisional game. Buffalos’ fierce defensive line already matched up well against the Dolphins, so a revised group up front creates an immediate disadvantage for the Dolphins.

SUNDAY GAMES WE’RE WATCHING

Philadelphia Eagles (7-2) at Green Bay Packers (6-3): These are the top scoring teams in the NFC. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers tied an NFL record by throwing six touchdown passes in the first half of a dominating win over the Chicago Bears. Mark Sanchez has replaced the injured Nick Foles at QB for Philly. Keep an eye on Philly’s all-purpose threat Darren Sproles, whose diminutive size is offset by his speed and savvy.

Detroit Lions (7-2) at Arizona Cardinals (8-1): The Cardinals have the best record in the league but lost QB Carson Palmer (knee) for the season. The Lions play outstanding defense and lead the league in scoring defense, having surrendered a mere 142 points.

Seattle Seahawks (6-3) at Kansas City Chiefs (6-3): These two teams battle over which has the louder stadium (and they employ sound technicians to measure the decibels). The Seahawks rushed for 350 yards in destroying the New York Giants; the stingy Chiefs have allowed the second fewest points in the NFL (151).
