The Celebration

The Boston Red Sox defeated the the St. Louis Cardinals by 6-1 in their final game in order to claim the title for the MLB World Series. The final game took place at Fenway Park located in Boston, Massachusetts. Nobody thought that Boston would be able to pull it off. The Cardinals were favored for the win hands down. The reason? Boston was fresh out of the worst season they had played in the past 47 years. The Boston Red Sox have not been able to celebrate a World Series win at home since Sept. 11, 1918.

Earlier Years

The Red Sox were on fire when baseball first became an organized sport. They were able to defeat all other contenders and were the champs of 5 of the first 15 Series ever played. Boston’s hopes were brought back to life in 2004 when they won their first championship in 86 long years. In 2007, they won again by defeating the Colorado Rockies. In 2013, the worst year in 47 years, they were only able to bring home an embarrassing 69 wins. This year, after they scored three runs in the third inning alone, everyone had faith that the champs were back. Victorino hit a stellar three-run double. Stephen Drew smacked a home run straight into the Red Sox bullpen! Napoli and Victorino were able to turn singles into scores. With bases loaded, Allen Craig made it in for the score on a grounder in the 7th inning.

How Did They Do It?

The shocking success is mostly contributed to the decision to bring on Ben Cherington and John Farrell. With a new general manager (Cherington) and a new field manager (Farrell), the Red Sox came back with a fury to dominate the game and get the best of star players like Max Scherzer and Anibal Sanchez. Bostonians had the pleasure of enjoying their 8th championship parade since 2002. The comeback is so epic that there are those even referring to a passage of scripture, claiming that it predicted the win. Luke 13:22-30 says “For behold, some are last who will be first.”

Owner John Henry gave a speech after receiving the World Series championship trophy. Speeches followed from Werner, Cherington, and Farrell. This was 95 years in the making.

Records and More

No matter how one thinks it happened, The Boston Red Sox did in fact do their job well this year. Lackey can now lay his claim to fame in being first man in history to win a World Series for two separate baseball franchises. Luis Tiant had the honor of throwing the ceremonial first pitch. Tiant was a starter at the Fenway game in 1975. Ortiz claimed the MVP of the series with his record of 2 home runs, 6 hits resulting in runs, scoring 7 runs himself, and batting.688. Fenway can proudly boast hosting its first World Series win since 1975. It will definitely go down in the history books as a record-breaking year.
