The Infamous McDonald’s Arches

It’s International Women’s Day, and all across the U.S. people are honoring the women in their lives for the wondrous things they do. Even businesses, corporations and the like are getting in on the appreciation action. McDonald’s is one business that decided to get in on the action, and paid homage to women everywhere, by flipping the infamous arched “M” upside down to resemble a “W.”

But it doesn’t stop with the signage. Employees will also wear t-shirts and hats that show off the once M, now W, logo. Of course, people are talking about this move McDonald’s made in an attempt to honor women, and not everybody is “lovin’ it.” Many argued, mainly via social media, that McDonald’s should have donated money to a worthy charity or perhaps raised their wages. Wendy Lewis, Chief Diversity Officer for the fast food giant clarified in an interview with Delish, what this movement is all about.

“For the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches for International Women’s Day in honor of the extraordinary accomplishments of women everywhere, especially in our restaurants,” Lewis said.
