Variety Is The Spice Of Life
With the Super Bowl a week ago, we can offer you no football games that have meaningful results. But one is a bit more interesting than another.
Start your Weekend TV Six-Pack on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET with the Senior Bowl from Mobile, Alabama. Top prospects for the draft did most of their most important work in front of scouts at practice, but here’s a chance to see them in a competitive situation that can impact whether they rise or fall on team draft boards. This will be on NFL Network.
If you can stand the idea of NFL players mostly wandering around in a fog and trying not to get hurt, the Pro Bowl is Sunday at 2:50 p.m. on ABC/ESPN. This is a game that has outlived its usefulness, but the TV ratings are still generally strong, so it will never go away. A more fun-filled version of this type of entertainment will come from the NHL with its All-Star Game on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. on NBC. These tend to be high-scoring affairs with limited defensive efforts.
Great fun if you like seeing the biscuit in the basket.
Can’t promise you Tiger Woods will make the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, but he shot an even-par 72 in Thursday’s opening round. Should he qualify, you will want to have a peek at his long-awaited return to the PGA Tour on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. on Golf Channel and moving to CBS at 4 p.m. Same coordinates for Sunday’s final round, except the respective times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
College hoops, anyone? Best bet is No. 2 Virginia and No. 4 Duke on Saturday at 2 p.m., with CBS carrying. At 7 p.m. on ESPN, Kentucky, which fell out of the Top 25 for the first time in three years, plays No. 6 West Virginia.
Now, kindly place your heiner in the recliner and relax. There is much to watch.
