Memorial Day Weekend Game Preview
As we prepare for an extended respite in honor of Memorial Day, let us first take a moment to honor all of those who served and the many who gave their lives in service to their country. Let’s hope there will be a day when “nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more” (Isaiah 2:4).
The blog will also be taking a holiday on Monday, so the Weekend TV Six-pack will extend through that day and give you plenty to watch as you burn hot dogs, pull a quad playing softball and suffer through your first sunburn of the season.
So let’s start with Monday and work back because that is when the Indianapolis 500 – iconic and archaic – roars at the Brickyard in Indianapolis. The green flag drops at 12:45 p.m. ET in this IndyCar spectacle. We just don’t see much open-wheel racing anymore, so here’s the chance. NBC starts its pre-race coverage at 11 a.m. and will bring you all 200 laps.
The NBA playoffs continue with Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals on Saturday night at 8 p.m. on TNT. The Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors are competing to see which will play the Golden State Warriors for the NBA title.
The NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs begin Monday night. The surprising St. Louis Blues, in the battle for Lord Stanley’s silverware for the first time since 1970, meet the Boston Bruins at 8 p.m. on NBC. The Blues outscored the San Jose Sharks 10-1 over the final two wins of their Western Conference championship series.
Golf fans can catch the third round of the Charles Schwab Challenge on CBS on Saturday and the finale on Sunday, with both telecasts starting at 3 p.m.
Baseball aficionados ought to take the opportunity to see the Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger in action. He’s batting almost .400 for the National League West leaders, who play the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday night on Fox at 7:15 p.m.
Enjoy the holiday. Remember why we have it and those who cannot be here to celebrate it.
