Trump bashes John Bolton after bold accusations
Earlier this week, excerpts from a book by John Bolton, Donald Trump’s former National Security Adviser, leaked to the press. In the book, Bolton makes several damning accusations against Trump, including that he froze military aid until Ukraine agreed to investigate his political rival, Joe Biden. Democrats called for Bolton to testify at the impeachment trial, but Trump was not having it, saying Bolton is merely bitter he got fired and is now trying to market a book.
“For a guy who couldn’t get approved for the Ambassador to the U.N. years ago, couldn’t get approved for anything since, “begged” me for a non Senate approved job, which I gave him despite many saying “Don’t do it, sir,” takes the job, mistakenly says “Libyan Model” on T.V., and many more mistakes of judgement, gets fired because frankly, if I listened to him, we would be in World War Six by now, and goes out and IMMEDIATELY writes a nasty & untrue book. All Classified National Security. Who would do this?” Trump tweeted.
Senator Pat Toomey, a Republican from Pennsylvania, told his hometown newspaper that some Republicans in the Senate might call for a vote compelling Bolton to testify at the impeachment trial.
“The criteria is not ‘does the witness have something interesting to say,’ the criteria is ‘are they likely to be able to shed definitive light on a disputed issue that is so central to this case that the resolution of it could change my final conclusion’,” Toomey said.
Democrats have complained about the lack of witnesses at the trial, saying the Republican-controlled Senate has already rigged the outcome in Trump’s favor.
