Trump teases wanting to attend the impeachment trial

As the Senate holds an impeachment trial, President Donald Trump is halfway around the world, attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. However, during a press conference before he returned to Washington, Trump says he’d love to attend the trial and stare in Democrats’ “corrupt faces.”

He then called individual Democrats out by name.

“First of all, Jerrold Nadler, I’ve known him a long time, he’s a sleazebag. Everybody knows that,” Trump said. “I watched the lies from Adam Schiff…He’s a liar and he’s a fraud. These are major sleazebags…It’s a total hoax. It’s a disgrace. They talked about their tremendous case and it’s all done.”

The impeachment trial began on Tuesday, stretching into the wee hours of the morning. Democrats charge Trump with abuse of power and obstructing Congress. However, regardless of the evidence against Trump, it’s highly unlikely that the Senate will vote to remove him from office.

Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat from California who led the impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives, says Americans just want a fair trial.

“They want to believe their government is still capable of rising to the occasion,” Schiff tweeted on Tuesday. “They want to believe we can rise above party, to do what’s best for our country. Sadly, a great many Americans doubt this is still possible. Let’s prove them wrong.”
