Claims impeachment hearings led to millions donated to Trump re-election campaign
The House of Representatives approved two articles of impeachment against President Trump before the holidays. However, the Trump campaign says impeachment proceedings have only helped to rally the Republican base, and donations are pouring into the Trump re-election campaign.
Trump’s 2020 campaign raised $46 million in the final quarter of 2019, said campaign manager Brad Parscale. That leaves the campaign with $102.7 million to spend on the 2020 election.
Impeachment has only encouraged donations, Parscale said.
“Democrats and the media have been in a sham impeachment frenzy and the President’s campaign only got bigger and stronger with our best fundraising quarter this cycle. The President’s war chest and grassroots army make his re-election campaign an unstoppable juggernaut,” he said.
Trump’s campaign earned more in donations in the final months of 2019 than any of the other Democratic candidates for president in 2020. Bernie Sanders raised about $34 million and Pete Buttigieg raised $24 million.
With the election more than ten months away, Trump has already raised a third of the total he spent on his 2016 campaign. Trump’s longtime strategist, Stephen Miller, said the campaign is better-funded and better-organized than it was in 2016.
“This time, there’s obviously a much better infrastructure, a much better starting point,” Miller said. “A much bigger campaign has a better chance to amplify the message.”
