Ah, let’s get ready to put our feet up and enjoy a weekend of great sports on the ol’ TV. What else would you rather be doing? Or, as, Buffalo Bills coach Marv Levy used to say, “Where else would you rather be than right here, right now?”
Speaking of the Bills … They washed away the New York Jets 22-17 on Thursday night at rainy MetLife Stadium in a sloppy game that also broke every fashion rule. The Jets wore a garish green and the Bills a bright red that, as NFL Memes pointed out on Facebook, made the contest look like a duel between Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Joan Rivers would have plotted.
And now, the six-pack of viewing delight …
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Oregon (6-3) at No.7 Stanford (7-1): Pretty good running backs here, with Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey and Oregon’s Royce Freeman. Stanford could still sneak into the four-team College Football Playoff. Stanford takes the Pac-12 North Division with a victory.
No. 12 Oklahoma (8-1) at No. 6 Baylor (8-0): Baylor scores a ridiculous 57.4 points a game and averages almost 666 yards of offense per game. The Sooners have scored 232 points in their four straight wins following their mystifying loss to Texas.
No. 2 Alabama (8-1) at No. 17 Mississippi State (7-2): Bama is in “we’ll rip your face off” mode now after squashing LSU. MSU has won four in a row.
NFL
Minnesota Vikings (6-2) at Oakland Raiders (4-4): The Raiders are where the Vikings were a year ago, gathering strength but not quite ready to finish. The Vikings, who have won four straight, can aspire to relieving the struggling Green Bay Packers of the NFC North crown.
Arizona Cardinals (6-2) at Seattle Seahawks (4-4): Carson Palmer has thrown 20 TD passes for the Cards and RB Chris Johnson has breathed new life into his legs and career. The Seahawks? They just don’t seem to have the same will or skill.
NASCAR
The NASCAR Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500 is Sunday at Phoenix International Speedway. Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski are both in the “must win” category to advance to the Championship 4 in the Race for the Sprint Cup Championship. Extraordinary viewing for those who love endless left turns.
