All For A Good Cause

To reflect the show’s message, Selena and a few members of the cast got the semicolon tattoo, which has become a symbol for the battle with depression. The meaning behind the tattoos is incredibly powerful. Selena feels it is important that kids around the world should be educated about what is going on with people suffering from depression and that it can even sometimes lead to suicide.

The new series “13 Reasons Why” tells the heartbreaking story of a teen who commits suicide. In an effort to reflect the show’s message, Selena and a few members of the cast got semicolon tats, a symbol for the battle with depression. According to the project Semicolon Instagram, the tattoo is “a movement dedicated to presenting hope and love to those who struggle with mental illness, suicide and self–injury.” In addition to getting the tattoos in solidarity, some of the stars spoke out about their own battles with mental illness.

Tommy Dorfman posted a pic of his new ink and wrote, “I struggled with addiction and depression issues through high school and early college. I reached out and asked for help. I never thought I’d live past the age of 21. At the time I thought my life was over, today I’m grateful to be alive.” Other cast members posted pictures and encouraged those with depression or suicidal thoughts to reach out for help.
