Regarded by many to be one of the hardest working personalities in the television business, it was just announced that Ryan Seacrest has found a new show to host. Produced by NBC, the show is called “The Million Second Quiz,” which is easy to guess will be a live quiz show with an interesting twist. As the name adequately describes, the show will take place over the course of 1,000,000 seconds (which rounds out to be just short of 12 days and nights).

As far as location, the event will be in New York City, hosted inside of a giant hourglass built outside of the NBC Rockefeller Center headquarters building. During show, contests will be competing for $10,000,000 in prize money, facing challenging trivia question after question while fighting off the exhaustion of living in a giant hourglass.

The Host

Ryan Seacrest is certainly no stranger to popular TV shows and trends, making his face known around the world hosting events like American Idol, showing up at the Emmys and Oscars, and even regular participation for New Year’s Eve events. He is often the center of national attention, and seems to enjoy the constant work even hosting his own daily Clear Channel radio show. Ryan is of course no stranger with NBC either, often serving as a special correspondent and contributor on the NBC primetime news, Olympics coverage, and even the Today show. Of course with the entire show only requiring 12 days of work, it was easy to find availability for the popular superstar despite his typical scheduling that requires he spend the fall season working on American Idol auditions.

The Contestants

The show is expected to be highly interactive, with NBC claiming a substantial “interactive element” for viewers at home along with fresh contestants chosen on a daily basis. According to the chief of NBC, Robert Greenblatt, “And while it’s being played in the center of New York City, you could be playing it at home on a special app that we’re building.” He went on to explain that it is more than the typical attempt to entice viewers, as participation can actually result in joining the show live, “There’s an element to the game where we’re going to go to a city every night and knock on somebody’s door and fly them to New York, and they’re going to be on the show the next night to compete with the person who is the reigning champion.” The potential payoff for millions will be a “money chair” style hot seat, where the leading contestant will earn a whopping $10 per second until he is dethroned.

The Premiere

Broadcast fully live, it is expected to get a huge audience from the start because of the high level of participation. Seacrest shared the enthusiasm, “I’m so excited to be hosting this new live game show on NBC, as it’s really a fun and different format that I believe will generate lots of fans across different platforms.” Joining in on the crew will be Stephen Lambert, Eli Holzman, and David A. Hurwitz as executive producers for the show which is scheduled to begin on September 9th, 2013 as part of NBC’s impressive fall schedule.
