The first thing that must have popped into your mind after reading the above title must be ‘why do these ice cubes message your friends and how exactly do they do it?’ Well, to start off, let me answer the first question which is a little simple than the latter, this of course is the question of why do these ice cubes message your friends?
Well, the magical thing about these ice cubes is that they won’t just send a text for no reason but will instead send it only when you have had a little too much to drink. Yes, that’s exactly right; this is a breath of fresh air for many because almost all of us have been in the situation where we have just had a little bit much to drink and so end up in a hospital somewhere not being able to remember where we were or what we were doing the night before. Who is the genius behind the ice cube concept you ask? Well, you will be surprised to know that these ice cubes have been developed by a 23 year old MIT student who more or less went through the same situation as I have described above. So, there you go, the answer to your first question is that these glowing ice cubes have been invented so that they can inform your friends and text them when you have had just a little too much to drink.
Now let me tell you how these ice cubes work because you must be wondering just how they have the ability to tell when you have had too much to drink and text your friends. First of all, you should know that these ice cubes are named by Dhairya Dand’s and called Cheers LED ice cubes and that they are basically a set of cubes that change color from green to yellow to red, depending on the amount of drinks that you have had. So what happens that if you go over the limit then the ice cubes will send a text to your friends letting them know that you have gone over the maximum amount of intake. A cool factor about these LED flashing ice cubes is that they glow and give off light according to the music or noise in the background. So, let’s get down to the original story of how these ice cubes came into being. Well, as mentioned, Dand (the 23 year old MIT student) had a blackout one night and three weeks later he had the idea to develop these ice cubes.
Dand says that the ice cubes are “edible and tasty” and that they basically utilize an LED, IR transceivers, an accelerometer, all of which are enclosed in the eatable jelly cubes. After taking a close look at the working of the ice cubes, it has been seen that the accelerometer estimates how many sips you have had by detecting the motion. This accelerometer, combined with the timer will tell just how drunk you may be. On the positive side, these ice cubes do not melt and will prove to be your best friends, but a little bit of negativity is that they are a bit too expensive as it required $50 for Dand to collect the needed material. So, will you be buying these glowing texting ice cubes in the near future?
