The Patriots welcome new quarterback

The New England Patriots are welcoming their new quarterback, Cam Newton, in an incentive-laden, one-year contract. Newton will be replacing former quarterback, Tom Brady, who just left the Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During the NFL draft back in April, the Patriots did not pick a new quarterback and is finally announcing the new replacement. Newton’s contract is beneficial for the team providing a low risk, high reward situation while factoring in Newton’s health.

The Patriots are planning for a smooth transition in the change of players. Newton continues to recover from a previous foot surgery going through physical rehab and maintaining regular physicals.

Newton also has an issue with his shoulder but is excited to be getting back on the field and playing for the Patriots. Coach Bill Belichick will be assessing players based on performance with players including Hoyer and Stidham who were previously leading offseason, on-field workouts.

This is good news for the Patriots and this announcement comes at a good time after recently landing in hot water with the NFL. The N.F.L. announced on Sunday they will be fining the Patriots $1.1 million and taking the third-round draft pick for 2021 after the team was caught filming the Cincinnati Bengals’ sideline game against the Cleveland Browns last season.
