Nearly 500 out of 1,373 passengers were airlifted off the cruise in bad weather. The decision to airlift passengers was to ensure the safety for the passengers, while 458 crew and 436 passengers stayed on board.
The cruise ship was able to make its way back to port with the help of several tugboats. This cruise ship is apart of Viking Ocean Cruises and has operated since 2017. The cruise company released a statement saying their top priority is to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew, they will also be further investigating the cause of the engine failure.
