It seems this time the People’s Choice Awards are likely to witness a keen tussle in almost every category. At least that’s what one get to understand from the nominations announced on Tuesday. Be it film, music or television, the fan-voted awards guarantee a tough fight with the line up looking quite competitive in each and every section. Ask for any popular actor, actress, host, pop artist, TV show, or song, you can find their names appearing prominently in the People’s Choice Awards nominations disclosed at the Paley Center for Media Beverly Hills, L.A. It means fingers have to be kept crossed, and even medal hopefuls will have to hold their cards close their chests till Jan. 8, when the 40th annual award winners are slated to be broadcast live on CBS at 9 p.m.

Glee Has Eight Nominations

Meeting people’s expectations, “Glee” leads the pack with eight nominations that include Favorite Network TV Comedy. Raising lot of hopes is Katy Perry who has earned five music nominations, namely favorite female artist, pop artist, song, music video and fan following. Another prominent personality to gain five movie nominations is Sandra Bullock, who will be vying for honors for Favorite Duo (wherein she pairs with Gravity’s George Clooney and The Heat’s Melissa McCarthy), comedic and dramatic actress. Finding a nomination for her outstanding performance in Lee Daniels’ The Butler is Oprah Winfrey, while Robin Williams, who won the maiden People’s Choice Award for favorite actor way back in 1979, will be hoping to make it again in the same category this year.

2 Broke Girls Host

If hosts matter so much in making the award declaration proceedings very interesting, then you can’t ask for a better choice than Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, famous stars of “2 Broke Girls”, who have been entrusted with the job of hosting the mega event. “Kat and Beth are great additions to our People’s Choice family and we are excited to have them host the show”, remarked Mark Burnett, People’s Choice Awards executive producer for the fifth year running.

Movies and TV Nominations

Films shortlisted for Favorite Movie are “Despicable Me 2”, “Iron Man 3”, “Star Trek Into Darkness”, “Fast & Furious 6”, and “Monsters University”. The contest for Favorite Movie Actor will be from among Channing Tatum, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Leonardo DiCaprio and Hugh Jackman, while Sandra Bullock, Gwyneth Paltrow, Melissa McCarthy, Scarlett Johansson, and Jennifer Aniston will fight it out for the Favorite Movie Actress title. Nominated for Favorite Network TV Comedy are “The Big Bang Theory”, “2 Broke Girls”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “Glee”, and “Modern Family”.

The voters really have a tough task on hand to select the Favorite Song from among Just Give Me A Reason (Pink feat: Nate Ruess), Radioactive (Imagine Dragons), Mirrors (Justin Timberlake), When I was Your Man (Bruno Mars) and Roar (Katy Perry). Another category that will witness a close encounter will be Favorite Pop Artist, where Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake are in the fray.

Other prominent sections that are expected to evince a lot of interest for the winner’s slot include Favorite Comedic TV Actor, Favorite Comedic TV Actress, Favorite Network TV Drama, Favorite Dramatic TV Actor, Favorite Dramatic TV Actress, Favorite Competition TV Show, Favorite Cable TV Comedy, Favorite Cable TV Drama, Favorite Premium Cable TV Show, and Favorite Cable TV Actress.
