The Washington Redskins has reconsidered a name change multiple times while facing controversy and is officially reconsidering a name change based on feedback from the sports community. The owner of the Redskins, Dan Snyder, is feeling more pressure to consider a name change in light of the social climate surrounding the wrongful death of George Floyd.

The Washington Redskins will have a thorough review of the team’s name that will formalize the name change in the league that they’ve been working on in the last couple of weeks. The Redskins hopes that this is the best decision for everyone including the loyal community on and off the field.

FedEx owns the naming rights to the Redskins’ stadium until 2025 for a $205 million deal and FedEx officially requested the team to consider a name change. Sponsors including PepsiCo and Nike are also facing pressure to sever ties with the team unless they change their name.

It seems that Nike is already taking action as they appeared to have removed all Redskins gear from its online store. When you search for Redskins there are no results but the rest of the 31 NFL teams are still on Nike.com.
