Lori Loughlin shares her regret over the recent scandal
A “legal source” close to Lori Loughlin tells People that Lori Loughin, the star of Fuller House, is “remorseful” about the college admissions cheating scandal.
Loughlin was arrested for her role in bribing college admissions officials and falsifying school records in order to get her two daughters into the University of Southern California. Her husband faced criminal charges as well. Other celebrities, including actress Felicity Huffman, were embroiled in the scandal, which the FBI dubbed “Operation Varsity Blues.”
“She’s embarrassed and hurt, and she knows that her reputation has been ruined for life. But she also believes the allegations against her aren’t true,” the source told People. “She honestly didn’t think what she was doing was any different than donating money for a library or athletic field,” adds the source. “That’s the crux of why she pleaded not guilty.”
Prosecutors say Loughlin’s actions went far beyond donating to a fake charity and included scams like paying someone else to take the SATs for her daughter. In one instance, a student’s head was photoshopped onto a soccer player’s face in order to make it look like they had athletic credentials.
Loughlin and her husband rejected a plea deal from prosecutors. If convicted, they could face up to 40 years behind bars.
