Jeep goes electric with new Magneto concept
Jeep recently announced they will be entering the EV market with their new electric concept vehicle styled after their iconic Wrangler SUV with a new name, the Magneto. Jeep unveiled the latest EV development at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari for the annual gathering of Jeep fans in Moab, Utah.

Though the Magneto is just a concept, this new vehicle marks the entrance of Jeep into the EV market and the future of EV vehicles offered by Jeep. The Magneto was constructed around a two-door 2020 Wrangler Rubicon replacing the gas engine with a custom electric motor.
The Magneto features the recognizable power of the 3.6-liter V6 found in other Jeeps with the Magneto motor featuring 285 horsepower and 273 lb-ft torque. The electric engine doesn’t compromise on the power Jeep is known for with a sprinting time of 60 mph in 6.8 seconds.
Jeep has yet to reveal the vehicle’s range but disclosed the Magneto will feature four battery packs throughout the new model. This might not be the only EV competing on the market but offers a unique six-speed manual transmission.

There are hardly any EVs on the market offering multi-speed transmission let alone a manual one. The Magneto will also be one of the first EVs built for off-roading with electric drivetrain, waterproofed Magneto batteries, and protected with skid plates with the ability to drive over tough terrain or power through 30 inches of water without damaging the batteries.
This EV SUV won’t be on the market anytime soon but Jeep offers an EV alternative with the 2021 Wrangler 4xe featuring a $50,000 plug-in hybrid model available now.
