When it comes to fashion, Lady Gaga is simply a cut above the rest. Or, that’s what the people got to witness when the Grammy winner came for “Artpop” release party on Sunday. Having drawn the eyes of the whole world, the pop star always pushes things forward. And that’s what she exactly did when debuting the world’s first flying dress “Volantis”, moving about 70 inches in the air to leave the crowd going wild.

“I want to introduce you to Volantis”, the 27-year-old Gaga said even as those gathered at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York City to take part in the release of her new album clapped and cheered in joy. “I wanted to make today about something even more important to me, and that something is the youth of the world….and although she (Volantis) is a vehicle, she is essentially a metaphor for me. I will be a vehicle of their voices and the voices of my fans”, Gaga said. She addressed the crowd with a massive white dress machine to her back that featured six fans in extraordinary size arranged in a hexagonal order.

Lady Gaga, who unleashed “artRave”, a non-stop thriller music concert to mark the launch of her latest album, arrived in a bright white astronaut suit, and soon got into black tights to make her way into the flying machine.

Soon after Gaga entered the dress machine, she found herself getting lifted off the ground, even though it was only by a few inches from the floor. The excited crowd stood up to wave to the flying Gaga, acknowledging that the singer has taken fashion to dizzy heights.

Even as she unveiled and demonstrated Volantis, Gaga, who has been associated with the development of the mobile eveningwear since its beginning, detailed that the original plan was to send pieces of the dress flying around her using drones. “I said to the tech house, “But what if we all flew?’, the Poker Face singer said, adding “And that’s where it all began.”

“So Happening”

On the album launch party, she tweeted: “At 6 pm EST today we will beta test VOLANTIS with the world. We invite you into our creative process during her initial stages of lift off.” The singer added that they were engaged in fixing the live stream that would enable little monsters to watch the launch live in case there was no site crash. “We’re working on fixing the live stream, there’s A LOT of traffic. If Vevo doesn’t work in your territory, fear not, we’re posting video”, she said after the crash.

The occasion to release Artpop was also used to introduce Gaga’s other popular creations designed along with other famous artists such as Marina Abramovic, Jeff Koons, Vinoodh, Inez, Benjamin Rollins Caldwell, and Robert Wilson. Appreciating the gesture made by Gaga, Caldwell said: “I think it’s absolutely amazing what she’s doing. Collaboration between different artists is so happening right now in the art world, and to bring it into the pop scene is just so incredible.”
