As the head of the central bank in England said recently, “ We’ve always have had the tragedy of the commons and one way of defining the climate crisis is the tragedy of the horizon.” Meaning that we all share the atmosphere but we also all see the horizon as a distant place perhaps far enough away that we need not engage our attention with it directly and immediately. But the horizon is not that far away and the sky above us is not as vast as it seems. We need to protect the place that we live in order to protect the future of human kind.

Unfortunately there has been serious harm that has already been done to our environment and if we fail to make the necessary changes then we could see some pretty serious consequences that will not be reversible. So what do we need to change immediately? We must put a price on carbon and in order to do this we must put a price on our politics. We need to become aware of our surroundings and stop denying what is happening to our environment.

But the one piece of advice that Al Gore says we need to remember is that you should never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens who can change the world as we know it. It is possible if you do something about it and don’t let things just pass you by without acting on the change that needs to be made.
