Did you know that, in some parts of the world, rhinoceros beetles are actually worth a decent amount of money? It’s true; if you find a particularly large specimen and sell them to the right collector, you could make around $100, maybe even more. Of course, finding an excellent specimen is an endeavor in itself, which is probably why they’re so rare in Resident Evil 4. Here are the rhinoceros beetle locations in the Resident Evil 4 remake.
Resident Evil 4 Remake: Rhinoceros Beetle Locations
In Resident Evil 4, rhinoceros beetles are extremely rare items for you to hunt down and capture. They’re so rare, in fact, that there are only two in the entire game, and they only show up in two static locations. It might seem like a bit of a hassle for a large bug, but these things can be quite beneficial in a couple of ways.
If you manage to capture a rhinoceros beetle, you have two choices. Your first choice is to eat it. I know, that sounds gross and weird, but in addition to restoring some of Leon’s health, they also increase his maximum health a few notches. It’s like a yellow herb you don’t have to combine with anything. Your second option is to sell it to a Merchant, where it’ll net you a cool 10,000 Pesetas. That’s enough for a gun upgrade or even an entire gun in the earlier parts of the game.
Rhinoceros Beetle 1
The first available rhinoceros beetle can be found in Chapter 4 in the Lakeside Settlement on the northwestern shore of Del Lago’s lake. You’ll need to defeat Del Lago and get the fresh boat after discovering the church key’s shrine in order to make your way over there. From the Lakeside Settlement’s dock, head up the stairs and to the left, past the old houses. You’ll find the beetle crawling around on a small tree next to a wrecked ship; keep your eyes open for the pickup prompt, as it’ll be difficult to spot in the rain.
Rhinoceros Beetle 2
The second rhinoceros beetle can be found in Chapter 8 in the castle, specifically in the small fountain plaza next to the Courtyard where Ashley leaves you. Walk around the left side of the gazebo with the fountain in it and examine the cracks in the brick wall to find the beetle.
What you do with these specimens is ultimately up to you, though personally, I’d rather sell them than eat them. Even if they increase your max health, the idea of eating a beetle is deeply unappealing on principle.
