After its initial founding in 2012, Amazon Game Studios, Amazon’s video game development subsidiary, had a long string of misfires and rough patches, with games either being repeatedly delayed or outright cancelled, and most of the games that did come out did not generate much buzz. This finally changed with the release of the MMORPG New World last year, which became a surprise hit in the PC gaming scene. Following that, Amazon Games’ success continued as it served as the western publisher for South Korean MMO Lost Ark, which also proved popular.

With Amazon Games finally seeming to hit its stride, its head, longtime Amazon employee Mike Frazzini has decided its time to let someone else take the reins. Frazzini recently announced on his personal LinkedIn that he was stepping down from his position as head, effective April 29, confident that the studio can take care of itself now.

“While there’s never really a perfect time to step away from a great role, now is a good time,” he wrote. “We’ve launched two top 10 games in the past six months, and have a growing portfolio of promising new games in the pipeline.”

Frazzini is hoping to use the down time to pursue some personal interests, as well as spend more time with his family.
