Dolly Parton doesn’t require any introduction as a singer, but the same can’t be said about rapping, an area which she hasn’t tried her hand so far. However, on Friday the 67-year-old country legend wanted to showcase her talent as a rap star, and much to everyone’s surprise, she managed to offer a terrific performance. This was at the invitation of Queen Latifah, who has earned a reputation as one of the pioneers of female hip-hop. Dolly made excellent use of The Queen Latifah Show to bolster her image.
“I don’t hip and I don’t hop…. (but) I’d black both eyes with this big top…” Dolly said referring to her famous chest. “…now this queen she’s got ’em too but she don’t work ’em like I do. Look at them go,” the plastic surgery addict said, taking all those assembled for the show by a pleasant surprise. Dressed in an afro, Dolly said if Queen Latifah was a queen of her hood, she was the queen of Dollywood. “Queen Latifah, she da queen of hip hop, rap, TV and screen/She da queen of her own hood/But, I’m the queen of Dollywood, yo,” she rapped to a thunderous applause.
Cracking Jokes
Even as Dolly cracked jokes about her shape, the “I Will Always Love You” singer went on to refer to her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, who is now in the news on account of her latest antics. “I’m tweaking!/I’m workin’. I’m twerkin! Hey Miley, I’ve got your wrecking balls right here!” Dolly cried, making it difficult for Queen Latifah to control herself from laughing. What Dolly was apparently pointing to was the $600,000 wrecking balls that are fastened to her chest.
Clad in a skintight black-black body suit and sporting a giant-size afro wig, Dolly looked quite gorgeous, thanks to those gold chains around the singer’s thin neck. “Please welcome one of the baddest rappers in the game straight out of Nashville that is Dolly Patron” was how Queen Latifah introduced the new singer to the audience. That Dolly thoroughly enjoyed her performance with the queen was evident when she later tweeted: “Video: Watch me twerk it with @IAMQUEENLATIFAH on Monday!”
Honorary Godmother
Although Dolly isn’t Miley’s godmother, she happened to enjoy this as an honorary status by virtue of her affinity with the hip-hop star’s dad Billy Ray Cyrus. “I told Billy Ray, I don’t know if I’ll be around to where I can actually do all the duties (of a godmother). So let me be her fairy godmother”, she had recently quipped on a chat show anchored by Anderson Cooper. Dolly also did not want to keep her feelings for Miley hidden. “I love Miley to death and people are mean about her all the time,” the country singer had commented earlier.
Leaving her age behind, Dolly really did well when she got an opportunity to try her hand at rapping, and gained herself even more exposure from it.
