Astros leading in World Series games
The Houston Astros can win their second championship in three years with a victory Tuesday night over the Washington Nationals in Game 6 of the World Series.
The Astros lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 after taking three straight games in Washington, D.C. Their bats came alive and the Nats’ bats went dead in a World Series in which the home team has yet to win.
The Astros outscored the Nationals 19-3 in rebounding from a 2-0 deficit. In winning 8-1 on Sunday night, the Astros hit three home runs while the Nationals managed only four hits. The Astros led the majors with 107 victories during the regular season.
“I feel like this last three games we really played like we want this championship,” Astros shortstop Carlos Correa said. “We’ve got to win one more game. Obviously, they’ve got a great team on the other side. We have a lot of respect for them and the group of guys they have over there. But we’ve got to go out there and take care of business in Houston.”
Justin Verlander goes to the mound for the Astros against Stephen Strasburg, who has been the postseason’s most effective pitcher. Verlander, oddly, carries an 0-5 record and 5.73 ERA in six World Series starts with the Detroit Tigers and Astros. The Astros bullpen is also rested and ready.
Game time at Minute Maid Park in Houston is 8:08 p.m. ET. Fox televises.
