This Hospital Hopes to Minimize Pain and Recovery Time for Patients Undergoing Surgery
Medical technology has been advancing in recent times and pulling us closer to a sci-fi future many could have never dreamed of. Robots being utilized for simple tasks is nothing new, but now the technology has advanced to give surgeons a step up when performing certain operations by using robotic tools now available.
Now, a hospital in Las Vegas is beginning to use advanced robotic technology to greatly improve their surgery on the operating table and ultimately making recovery much easier for the patient. The Southern Hills Hospital in Las Vegas showed a local news station their latest piece of surgical equipment, and it looks like something brought back from the future.
The device uses highly precise and specialized robotic arms, and a high definition magnified camera to perform a certain task. Used in conjunction with surgeons, one of whom controls the robotic device, this can minimize the margin of error in certain surgeries.
The device also allows for less of the patient’s internals to be exposed when certain procedures require it. The magnification can create a clearer picture of what is going on than just the naked eye of a doctor.
Dr. Peter Caravella of Southern Hills Hospital says in an interview that these tools can be used in a multitude of procedures, including hernia, gallbladder, and colon surgeries to name a few. He also states that the accuracy of the magnified camera, as well as the steadiness and minuteness of the robotic arms, will greatly benefit surgeons during the operations, and patients will benefit from the less invasive nature of the device.
Hopefully, these machines can help thousands of patients who require these kinds of surgery and leave surgeons better equipped to help people.
