The blue-haired housewife doesn’t like being used as an insult.
The Simpsons have always had an interesting relationship with politics as a general concept. Sometimes, they go for more lighthearted jabs at current presidents and politicians, like when Bill Clinton was just bumming around the Simpsons’ neighborhood playing a saxophone. Sometimes, the writers’ leanings are a little more overt, like the episode where Lisa writes a fiery condemnation of the government after witnessing a politician take a bribe. For the most part, though, these antics are relegated to the show itself. However, after President Donald Trump’s advisor, Jenna Ellis, commented that prospective Vice President Kamala Harris sounds like Marge Simpson (in an insulting fashion), the woman herself has spoken up.
The official Simpsons Twitter page released a brief clip of Marge standing on a stage and commenting on her feelings toward Ellis after her name was used to insult Harris.

“I usually don’t get into politics, but the President’s Senior Advisor, Jenna Ellis, just said Kamala Harris sounds like me,” Marge said, adding that “Lisa says she doesn’t mean it as a compliment.”
“As an ordinary suburban housewife,” she continued, “I’m starting to feel a little disrespected. I teach my children not to name-call, Jenna.”
Now, obviously, Marge Simpson isn’t a real person, though it hasn’t been clarified whether this statement was the idea of the show’s writers, its producers, or Marge Simpson’s voice actress, Julie Kavner. Of course, this hasn’t been the first time the show has taken a shot at the Trump Administration; a popular example actually came from 16 years before the Trump presidency even came about with a flash-forward episode where Lisa became president and mulled over how to deal with a debt inherited from President Trump.
As anyone would expect, the statement received praise from supporters of Kamala Harris and flak from supporters of Donald Trump, though several Twitter users also pointed out Marge’s fictitious nature, claiming it invalidates the message. Jenna Ellis herself also responded, tweeting “Marge is probably going to vote Democrat… by mail.”
