Training For A Marathon
Chip Gaines from the popular home renovation show “Fixer Upper” is changing his work boots for a pair of running shoes by training for his first marathon.
“If I can convince myself to just keep putting one foot in front of the other, then I can run as far as I want to,” Gaines says. In October 2017 Gaines met Grunewald while she was on a run in Central Park and was inspired to start running himself.
Gaines found inspiration in Grunewald continuing to run through four bouts of cancer saying, “She has overcome so much, and given what she’s gone through. I had no excuse not to give this a shot.” He also found inspiration to run in a marathon that he created.
As Marathon Team Captain he hosts the inaugural Silo District Marathon with 100 percent of the proceeds going to rare cancer research. One of the organizations that will receive donation is Grunewald’s own Brave Like Gabe Foundation.
Gaines started running a long time ago for recreation but this is his first attempt in a marathon, along with running the marathon operations he has quite a full plate. He also contribute his success with the support of his fans, including his three children.
He’s lost 10 pounds since starting his training and gaining more respect for daily runners, working through obstacles. The Silo District Marathon took place the first week of May in Waco, Texas.
Participant count for the marathon was an estimated 18,000 people who competed in a 5K and Half Marathon. The event raised over $250,000 for rare cancer research and Gaines ran the marathon with his tool belt on (to no one’s surprise).
