India Takes on Australia with Another Win!
Australia’s chances in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup are in jeopardy after a 24-run defeat to India in their Super 8s Group 1 match in St Lucia.
India topped Super 8s Group 1 with a perfect record and will now face defending champions England in the semi-finals in Guyana on Thursday at 15:30 BST.
Australia’s defeat came as Rohit Sharma delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 92 off 41 balls and leading India to a total of 205-5 in their 20 overs. Rohit’s innings, featuring eight sixes and seven fours, is considered one of the standout performances of the tournament.
Australia, having won the toss and chosen to field, saw India quickly reach 100 runs inside nine overs. Despite Australia’s efforts to restrict India to 205-5 after Rohit was bowled by Mitchell Starc, the target proved to be a tough challenge.
In response, David Warner, likely in his last international game, was caught at slip off Arshdeep Singh in the first over for six. Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh then formed a strong partnership, adding 81 runs in eight overs. This partnership was broken by Axar Patel’s remarkable one-handed catch, dismissing Marsh for 37.
While Head continued to score, the increasing required run rate and dwindling boundaries made the chase difficult. Head was eventually caught by Rohit off Jasprit Bumrah for 76, and Australia ended their innings at 181-7.
Australia’s semi-final hopes now depend on the final group game between Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Australia will be eliminated if Afghanistan wins, or if Bangladesh wins with a significant net run-rate boost. South Africa awaits the result to determine their semi-final opponent.

- India 205-5 (20 overs): Rohit 92 (41)
