A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
They say there’s no crying in baseball, but there will be plenty in football. On Saturday night, the Pro Football Hall of Fame inducts the Class of 2017 and those men will blubber and sob as they address family and friends and remember the highlights of their NFL careers.
The speeches are emotional (and too long, but, hey, it’s their day). Tune into ESPN at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday to see LaDanian Tomlinson, Morten Andersen, Kenny Easley, Jason Taylor, Terrell Davis, Kurt Warner and Jerry Jones honored.
What else is tucked into your Weekend TV Six-Pack? Enough to get your heiner in the recliner and keep it there until calluses form.
The third round of the WGC-Bridgestone golf tournament, which sets up next week’s PGA Championship, can be seen on CBS on Saturday at 2 p.m. It wraps up on Sunday at the same time, on the same network.
Our friends who go round and round come to you Sunday from Watkins Glen, N.Y., driving in NASCAR’s Watkins Glen International. All of this circular motion can be seen on NBC Sports Network at 3 p.m.
If you prefer horses to horsepower, tune in on Saturday for the Hambletonian, a harness racing gem at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. CBS Sports Network shows the races from 4-5:30 p.m. There are two heats and then a final.
The Chicago Cubs have shaken off their early-season slump and take on that rising power in the east, the Washington Nationals, on Sunday at 2 p.m. on TBS. It is always a pleasure to get a look at Wrigley Field and these teams.
If you need to see actual football being played, you can kick off your weekend on Friday night with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats visiting the Edmonton Eskimos in what appears to be a mismatch. The struggling Ti-Cats are 0-5, the Esks 5-0. Hamilton has given up a league-high 201 points.
