A Sports Filled Weekend It Was
What a weekend of college basketball. What a field in the Final Four.
From Florida’s buzzer-beating overtime win over Wisconsin to North Carolina’s last-second victory over Kentucky, the NCAA Tournament lived up to the March Madness billing.
Your Final Four: North Carolina, which always seems to be there (20th visit); Gonzaga, which has never been there; South Carolina, which previously couldn’t even imagine being there; and Oregon, which hasn’t been since 1939.
Kansas? Couldn’t handle Oregon’s quickness and length. Kentucky? Battled the Tar Heels until the end. Florida? Undone by South Carolina’s defense.
Your Final Four matchups: South Carolina-Gonzaga and Oregon-North Carolina on Saturday, with the championship game April 3.
Also: Archie Miller, who took Dayton to the NCAA Tournament the last four years, will be introduced on Monday as Indiana’s new head coach.
NASCAR: Kyle Larson had quite a weekend at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. He won the Xfinity Series race on Saturday and the Auto Club 400 on Sunday, surviving four restarts and two extra laps. Larson had finished second in three consecutive NASCAR Monster Energy Series races, so the victory was quite welcome. “It’s great to be Kyle Larson right now,” said (who else?) Kyle Larson. Brad Keselowski was second and Clint Bowyer finished third.
PGA Tour: Dustin Johnson won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship, beating Jon Rahm 2-1 at Austin Country Club in Texas. Johnson was 5-up after eight holes but Rahm won the next two as Johnson bogeyed both. Then Rahm won three of four holes starting at the 12th to make the match competitive again. Johnson became the first player to win all four WGC events.
