Currently, in Thailand various government groups are collaborating to fight human trafficking and to help the victims of such crimes. They have decided that enough is enough and they are taking on the fight to really battle against these types of crimes in their country. Campaigns have been set up, according to Santi Promphat the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, to fight human trafficking in a variety of ways. One way that they have decided to fight against these crimes is by providing people with education.
Not only are they teaching people about the crimes that take place in their neighborhoods, but they been working to help to train various volunteers to assist in the fight. Additionally, they government groups have set up a hotline that people can call to give information about trafficking taking place. These types of calls can give enough insight that investigations can locate and help the victims of these crimes. Santi Promphat has said that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is completely dedicated to this fight.
Combative Measures
What they want to do is help out the victims of these crimes in a variety of ways. They will not discriminate on any basis. They will provide shelters for victims of these crimes. Additionally, they want to help these people who are victims of human trafficking to find jobs and to learn how to make money. There have been reports recently of human trafficking taking place in the fishing industry. Santi indicated that they have ramped up their investigations to fight these cases as well as crimes against migrant workers. They are focusing their attention on a few different provinces. A variety of agencies, including the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Foreign affairs have gotten together to give diplomats tours of factory that deals in food and shrimp.
Apparently, intelligence indicated that child labor and other forms of labor exploitation were taking place there, as well as human trafficking. The United States has a watch on Thailand for human trafficking. Thailand is working hard to fix their image of trafficking in human labor. In defense of Thailand, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign minister points out that there are a lot of government activities going on to combat human trafficking in Thailand. Also, he indicated that there was fear that the rumors about the shrimp industry would cause damage to the whole industry.
Their Commitment
Apparently, the government in Thailand has set up a fund for 2013 for an Anti-Human Trafficking Plan. The government of Thailand is also cooperating with other countries to work on this fight. They also want to focus on protected and nurturing the victims of these crimes. Right now, the frozen foods group in Thailand is willing to work with the government to allow people to visit the factories. They want to prove that they can do better in their practices for labor. This is all really good news to hear that there is a fight taking place to combat these crimes against human beings.
