This Is The Dry Time
Basketball and hockey playoffs are behind us, the Olympics are a good five weeks away and college football and the NFL are just a dream.
So you’ll have to help me with the Weekend TV Six-Pack. Think of it as an empty carton which you fill. Rather than must TV we have musty TV.
So be it. Good times are ahead – way ahead. For now, plunk your heiner in the recliner and try to dial up something good on this holiday weekend.
For openers, there’s the Canadian Football League on Friday night at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers visit the Calgary Stampeders, both seeking their first win. The Blue Bombers’ quarterback is Drew Willy – that’s good enough for me.
If you’re near the TV earlier in the day, try to catch the Cleveland Indians-Toronto Blue Jays game at 1 p.m. on MLB. The Indians are the hottest team in baseball with 13 straight wins.
Euro 2016 also offers some options for soccer fans. Friday’s quarterfinal matches Wales and Belgium at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2. Saturday brings Germany-Italy at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2, but the marquee match is Sunday, when plucky little Iceland takes on host France at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN.
The NBA’s summer league also begins play at all hours of the day on Saturday and Sunday on NBA TV. Here’s a chance to see some of the rookies and hopefuls in action.
For early risers on Saturday, there’s breakfast with the Tour de France. The world’s most famous cycling event pedals into the first of its 21 stages at 6:30 a.m. on NBC Sports Network. Have French toast and get in the spirit of things.
Eclectic choices? To be sure. We work with what we have.
Watch responsibly.
