Serving A Shakeup
Tennis may be changing as we know it. Towel racks, shorter sets, reduced warmups and a 25 second shot clock will be tested at November’s Next Gen ATP Finals. If all goes well, these rules could be introduced to the men’s tour as early as 2019.
The shot clock forces players to serve within 25 seconds. This rule has already been enforced in some tournaments, however it is unclear what breaking this rule will result in. We do know that warmups longer than seven minutes will lead to a $20,000 fine. Professional player Rafael Nadal has openly voiced his opposition to the changes.
