A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
In wishing everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend, I would like to also point out this holiday came at a terrible price. It commemorates the ultimate sacrifice of so many American men and women in military service to their country. So please give a thought to them and their families before you plunk your heiner in the recliner and enjoy your favorite sports.
The Indianapolis 500 is as closely connected to the Memorial Day weekend as flags and barbecues. The 500 is now 100 – 100 years old. The race takes place on Sunday at noon ET at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and ABC has the broadcast rights.
If one race isn’t enough, stick around until 6 p.m. for NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. Fox will bring you that one.
To kick off the festivities on Friday night, watch the Cleveland Cavaliers try to close out the Toronto Raptors in the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals. The Cavs lost twice in Toronto, and they’re back visiting our friendly neighbor to the north again. ESPN’s got it at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m., the NCAA men’s lacrosse semifinals pit No. 1 Maryland against Brown in Philadelphia. The Terps have been on a tear, outscoring their last two opponents 26-13. This will be shown on ESPN2.
Saturday night brings us Game 6 of the NBA Western Conference duel between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are at home and trail 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. Turn to TNT at 9 p.m. to see if the Warriors can force a seventh game.
Also on Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ESPN – baseball. The New York Mets play the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both are in second place in their respective divisions and the Dodgers have won four straight games entering this series with the Mets.
Watch responsibly. Fly your flag. Be safe.
