A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
The NBA’s All-Star Weekend in New Orleans will dominate TV through Sunday with a variety of attractions – the D-League All-Star Game, the All-Star Celebrity Game, the actual All-Star Game – so your thirst for basketball will surely be slaked.
We’ll pick and choose among those and other items to compose our Weekend TV Six-Pack. So gently deposit your heiner in the recliner and prepare for extended periods of visual stimulation…
The NBA All-Star Game is actually the last of the weekend’s attractions. It’s generally a high-scoring show that doesn’t really mean much. It’s at 8:20 p.m. ET Sunday on TNT/TBS. Also fun is All-Star Saturday Night, which is a series of competitions relying on a variety of basketball skills, 3-point shooting and slam dunking among them. Catch this on (duh) Saturday night at 8 p.m. on TNT.
Down a level, you can see a marquee Big Ten matchup on Sunday at 1 p.m. on CBS when No. 11 Wisconsin hosts No. 23 Maryland. This could well decide the Big Ten championship and the Badgers come off a loss on Thursday night to Michigan.
Even bigger is Saturday’s meeting between No. 3 Kansas and No. 4 Baylor. The Bears have never beaten the Jayhawks, who will likely clinch a 13th straight Big 12 title if they win. This is at 1 p.m. on CBS.
Hockey fans will want to see Friday night’s meeting between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets at 7 p.m. on the NHL Network. The Penguins are in second place in the Metropolitan Division, a mere two points ahead of the Jackets.
For the golf crowd, the final round of the Genesis Open is Sunday and CBS picks it up at 3 p.m. from the Golf Channel and carries to conclusion.
There’s your six…to go. Just don’t go too far or too fast.
