A Sports Filled Weekend Ahead
We’re all giddy and excited because we can watch football. Yay!
It’s the NFL, in all its preseason glory (and a bit delayed after the Hall of Fame game last Sunday was canceled due to field problems).
This first week of games won’t tell fans much about starters, who rarely play but a series or two in the opener. Still, it’s a great way to see what sort of depth your favorite team may have and who might be an emerging contributor.
It’s a virtual feast on Friday night. The Miami Dolphins, under new coach Adam Gase, play the New York Giants, under new coach Ben McAdoo. The Dolphins’ offense has been slow to catch fire during training camp. This one’s at 7 p.m. ET on CBS. It’s up against the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers on NFL Network at the same time, so get that picture-in-picture function working. The resurgent (maybe) Oakland Raiders meet the Arizona Cardinals at 10 p.m. on NFL Network.
If you’re in the mood for baseball on Friday night, Fox will carry the Tampa Bay Rays-New York Yankees game at 7:30 p.m. Neither team is going anywhere but Alex Rodriguez is. The controversial slugger, 41, will be released by the Yankees following this game. It might be worth seeing what sort of farewell he gets from the home crowd.
Saturday night we’re back to football. The Dallas Cowboys help the Rams get re-acclimated to Los Angeles at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
The sixth offering is more like a Weekend TV Warehouse of programming – the Olympics. Too much going on to detail here but NBC and its family of networks will show everything from badminton to men’s trampoline to equestrian. Good luck with that.
So gently place your heiner in the recliner and prepare to be dazzled. As always, watch responsibly.
