Plenty Of Sports To Go Around

The Chicago Cubs stand on the verge of clinching the National League pennant and facing the Cleveland Indians in the World Series that begins Tuesday. To do so, the Cubs must beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of their NL Championship Series on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET on FS 1.

How can this not lead our weekend? Well, if the Cubs lose – they’re up three games to two in this best-of-seven series, it comes down to a Game 7, also at Wrigley Field, on Sunday at 8 p.m., also on FS 1. And that would be the marquee game. So, as they say, keep score at home.

There’s a pair of beauties for you on a glorious TV weekend. What else is in the visual fridge?

Methinks you’ll want to see a bit of college football, and the best of the best is No. 6 Texas A&M (6-0) at No. 1 Alabama (7-0) in an SEC West clash. In 2013, while playing for Oklahoma, quarterback Trevor Knight ripped up Bama in the Sugar Bowl. Now he’s under center for A&M and has accounted for 18 touchdowns this season. This clash of the titans is on CBS on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Hate to stay in the SEC, but that’s where the fun is. No. 17 Arkansas (5-2) visits No. 21 Auburn (5-2) and that’s on the screen at 6 p.m. on ESPN.

Your NFL schedule is affected by your local teams, so check the listings as you click around. One we can all see – and you West Coast viewers will have to set your alarms for an early wake-up call – is the New York Giants “at” the Los Angeles Rams at Twickenham Stadium in England. That’s at 9:30 a.m. on the NFL Network. After you get past the scenery, ain’t much to this one.

The Sunday night game pits the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos (8:20 p.m, NBC). Former Denver quarterback Brock Osweiler jumped in free agency to Houston, so this is a grudge match.

NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup will see its field of drivers trimmed from 12 to eight after Sunday’s race at Talladega. NBC Sports Network will show this at 2 p.m. Brad Keselowski is 11th of the 12 remaining drivers but has four career wins at the fabled Alabama track, including one this spring and he’s considered the favorite.

So? Get ready to plunk your heiner in the recliner. Rest easy. Watch responsibly.
