Weekend Sports Six-Pack
Vanderbilt’s 3-0 start this season continues its building upon last year’s strong finish, but trouble is coming to town. Saturday, at 3:30 p.m. ET, Alabama, also 3-0 and ranked No. 1, pays a visit.
As we say in Bad Sports Writing 101, one of these teams will not leave the building undefeated. CBS shows this SEC battle, and it may be fun … for at least a while.
What else have we for you in the Weekend Six-Pack? Ah, plenty to keep that heiner in the recliner.
Let’s toss in one more college football game that matches ranked teams. No. 17 Mississippi State (3-0), fresh off a pounding of LSU, visits No. 11 Georgia (3-0) at 7 p.m., also on CBS. In fact, let’s toss in two. In a rematch of last year’s Pac-12 championship, No. 7 Washington (3-0) plays Colorado (3-0) in Boulder at 10 p.m. on FS1.
Two undefeated games get after each other on Sunday afternoon when the Atlanta Falcons (2-0) head to Detroit to play the (Lions). That’s at 1 p.m. on Fox, but check your local listings. We’ll also suggest NBC’s Sunday nighter (8:30 p.m.) pitting the Oakland Raiders (2-0) against the Washington Redskins (1-1).
There are two races left in the first round of NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series playoffs, and the next is Sunday at New Hampshire. NBC Sports Network shows this at 2 p.m.
The PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup and a $10 million prize are on the line at East Lake in Atlanta. NBC gets the honors for Saturday’s third round and Sunday’s finale, with tune-in Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
You must have baseball? Well, the Houston Astros have already clinched the American League West but they are fun to watch with such young stars as Jose Altuve. They host the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday night at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
