A Sports Filled Weekend

Adam Scott was getting lost in golf’s youth movement. At 35 and nearly two years removed from his last PGA Tour win, he had become, if not irrelevant, an afterthought.

Scott changed the narrative on Sunday at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He opened the final round with a birdie, played par golf for the 18 holes on the Champion course at PGA National, and earned a 1-stroke victory over Sergio Garcia.

“It’s amazing in a couple weeks how quickly things turn around,” the Australian-born Scott said after picking up a winner’s check of roughly $1.1 million.

NBA

Hope you didn’t miss Saturday night’s 121-118 OT win by the Golden State Warriors over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Stephen Curry fired in a 3-pointer from about 38 feet to win it for the Warriors, who have now clinched a playoff berth. Curry scored 46 points and tied a single-game record with 12 3-pointers. The last one was his 288th of the season, breaking his own NBA record with 24 games left.

College Basketball

Ranked teams continue to take regular beatings. The next Top 25 poll will be mighty interesting at the top. On Sunday, Seton Hall let the air out of No. 5 Xavier 90-81. Xavier had knocked off No. 1 Villanova last week. Pitt battered No. 15 Duke 76-62. Saturday’s biggie saw No. 3 Virginia beat No. 7 North Carolina 79-74. No. 3 Oklahoma (co-ranked with UVA) fell to No. 25 Texas, 76-63. Expect Kansas, a 67-58 winner over Texas Tech, to make that short leap from No. 2 to No. 1 in a season where no team long stays on that top perch.

Elsewhere
As wrecks littered the track behind, Jimmie Johnson stayed steady and took the checkered flag in overtime under caution in Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The victory was his 76th, tying him with the late Dale Earnhardt for seventh on the all-time list. … In the NHL, the Anaheim Ducks won their eighth game in a row, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 4-2. Corey Perry notched his ninth career hat trick for the Ducks. … Mohaymen, a top contender for the Kentucky Derby, won the Fountain of Youth Stakes on Saturday. Mohaymen will race in the April 2 Florida Derby against Nyquist in an eagerly-anticipated matchup.
