A Sports Filled Weekend It Was
The Chicago Cubs forced a Game 6 in the World Series, defeating the Cleveland Indians 3-2 on Sunday night at Wrigley Field. It was the Cubs’ first World Series win at Wrigley since Oct. 8, 1945.
The Cubs got all their runs in the fourth inning and Aroldis Chapman came on to preserve the victory with an eight-out save. Game 6 is Tuesday night in Cleveland at 8 p.m., to be televised by Fox. The Indians lead the best-of-seven series 3-2.
NFL

It seemed as if everyone worked overtime, from morning to night. Sunday started with the Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals, beamed live from London. It ended in a weird 27-27 tie. Bengals kicker Mike Nugent missed an extra point in the third quarter and Redskins kicker Dustin Hopkins pulled a 34-yard field goal try wide to the left late in overtime. … In Tampa, the Oakland Raiders ran their road record to 5-0 (6-2 overall) with a 30-24 OT win over the Buccaneers. Records fell in this one. Derek Carr passed for a Raiders record 513 yards and four touchdowns while the Raiders sent NFL records with 23 penalties for 200 yards. … In the NFL nightcap, Dak Prescott hit Jason Witten for a touchdown and a 29-23 OT victory for the Dallas Cowboys over the Philadelphia Eagles.
College Football

Alabama, Michigan, Clemson and Washington hold the top four spots in the Associated Press Poll. The Big 12 had no representation in the top 10. West Virginia, previously No. 10, slipped to No. 14 after its first loss, to Oklahoma State. Baylor, previously No. 8, dropped to 13th after losing to Texas. The more relevant standings come out Tuesday when the College Football Playoff committee issues its first rankings.
NASCAR

Jimmie Johnson won at Martinsville for the first time since 2013 to earn a spot in the Championship 4 in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Johnson never led until he passed Denny Hamlin on Lap 409 of the Goody’s Fast Relief 500. The Championship 4 race is Nov. 20 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Brad Keselowski nosed out Hamlin for second.
