Whoops
On Friday, Valve, a distribution gaming company, accidentally launched Steam.tv – streaming game platform and competition to Twitch.tv and Youtube. A Valve representative claimed that it was only supposed to be a test. “We are working on updating Steam Broadcasting for the Main Event of The International, Dota 2’s annual tournament,” the company confirmed.
It was eventually taken down. The service has only been streaming the Dota 2 tournament. Moreover, you are only able to watch and stream with your friends and talk about it via Stream Chat, which is one of Steam.tv’s new features. The service also has a voice chat, however, it only works on Google Chrome. It doesn’t work on Firefox or Edge.

In addition, the site is unstable, but it’s new so that’s understandable. Steam chat will offer grouping features. With grouping features, users will automatically be grouped by game and party. This makes the game-play less trivial.
Besides reaching out to a few publications, Valve has yet to publicly address the launch. If Stream.tv ends up being successful though, Twitch and YouTube might be having some serious competition deal with. Steam.tv seems to have a bright future ahead of it.
