Trump goes after multiple Congresswomen
Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to condemn a tweet in which President Donald Trump suggested four Democratic congresswomen should “go back” to their countries. But it seems Trump has no regrets about the controversial tweet. On Sunday, he again used Twitter to attack the media and the four Democratic representatives–Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib. He also lashed out at the Washington Post for reporting “fake news.”
“I don’t believe the four Congresswomen are capable of loving our Country. They should apologize to America (and Israel) for the horrible (hateful) things they have said. They are destroying the Democrat Party, but are weak & insecure people who can never destroy our great Nation!” Trump tweeted early Sunday morning.
At a Trump rally last Wednesday night in Greenville, North Carolina, Trump supporters chanted “send her back” when Trump mentioned Ilhan Omar, a Muslim woman who was born in Somalia and now represents the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area in Congress. But Trump called the Washington Post’s reporting on the rally “fake news.”
“The Washington Post Story, about my speech in North Carolina and tweet, with its phony sources who do not exist, is Fake News,” Trump tweeted. “The only thing people were talking about is the record setting crowd and the tremendous enthusiasm, far greater than the Democrats. You’ll see in 2020!”
The Congresswomen have not formally responded to Trump’s latest round of attacks.
