Trump goes after Thunberg saying she needs anger management
After TIME Magazine named teen climate activist Greta Thunberg person of the year, President Trump mocked the 16-year-old Swede on Twitter, implying that she was angry and overly emotional. He instructed Thunberg to “chill.”
“So ridiculous,” Trump tweeted. “Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!”
But Thunberg appeared to take Trump’s tweet in stride. In response to his comments, she changed her Twitter bio to read, “A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend.”
The Trump campaign also circulated a doctored TIME cover that replaced Thunberg’s face with Trump’s.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama tweeted words of encouragement to Thunberg after Trump mocked her. “@GretaThunberg, don’t let anyone dim your light. Like the girls I’ve met in Vietnam and all over the world, you have so much to offer us all. Ignore the doubters and know that millions of people are cheering you on,” Obama wrote.
Barack Obama’s Vice President, Joe Biden, who is currently running for the Democratic presidential nomination to challenge Trump in 2020, questioned Trump’s judgment.
“What kind of president bullies a teenager?” Biden tweeted.
