The spring look for 2014 shown through the eyes of designers present in the New York Fashion Week is pictured as a combination of edgy and playful. Victoria Beckham showed another side of her style with her laid-back designs while Diane von Fustenberg’s designs were clearly  jungle-inspired.

Victoria Goes Boyish Femme

The wife of soccer star David Beckham who has forged a name for herself in the fashion industry after leaving the popular all-girl group Spice Girls combined two contrasting elements for her spring line. Her clothes still showed her affair with pleats as they playfully peeked through her flirty uneven miniskirts – a leap away from her usual midi-length choice. These were paired with loose gauze blouses that sport flares low on the hips. Her models also came out in cropped pants paired with round-shouldered structured blazers. The designer herself made a brief appearance on the runway in a white loose blouse tucked fashionably in black cropped pants.

Her show was graced with David himself with daughter Harper sitting on his lap.

How Other Designers Fare

Aside from Victoria, other designers splurged on experimenting for the perfect spring fashion come 2014.

Designer Jason Wu departed from his usual choice of bold red, blues and whites; his line came out in soft hues of mint, blush and gold mixed artfully together with all-business black and navy in the background. His ramp was rich in gowns including an eye-catching mermaid gown worthy of the red carpet.

Spotted celebrities who watched Jason Wu’s collection were singer Alicia Keys, Maria Sharapova and Jessica Pare-Star of Mad Men.

Prabal Gurung, on the other hand, played with futuristic-themed feminity. He used familiar cuts of clothes yet gave his creation “the techy look.” The fabrics he used for his line were equally future-edged – cellophane georgette, screen-printed PVC and bonded technical satin. Cat-eye sunglasses color-blocked in an assortment of rainbow hues and slingbacks with pointed toes complete the looks of his models.

It will be no wonder if Girls stars Allison Williams and Zosia Mamet, Ciara, Zachary Quinto – Clark will be showing the Prabal Gurung look soon; they seemed to be mesmerized watching his runway as they sat front row.

Designer Christian Siriano was very inspired by his recent trip to Isla Mujeres, Mexico he used that inspiration in his 2014 spring look collection. His clothes had a tropical feel – from his daywear punctuated with raffia patterns and kicky graphics that went even down to the shoes which he also designed. His nightwear was also an assortment of blooms with appliqués of petals and feathers, all which exuded the feeling of romance. In his show, Selma Blair and Leigh Lezark-Clarl were seen in the front row.

Alexander Wang also had his show in the New York fashion Week and it portrayed a line of streetwear circa the 90s complete with bold logos. To complete his 90s portrayal, he had his models do the catwalk to a 90s hip-hop soundtrack blaring in the background. His line included typical 90s clothes — trousers slung low, streetwear boxers, as well as leather jumpers. However, it was his branding that got the attention of many.

Kanye West, sans Kim Kardashian and daughter North, was one of the celebrities spotted in the front row during Wang’s show.
