Brady teases possibly leaving The Patriots
Tom Brady, who has played twenty NFL seasons as a New England Patriot, becomes a free agent in March. After the 42-year-old quarterback put his Massachusetts mansion up for sale last summer, speculation mounted that Brady either planned to retire or leave the Patriots after two decades.
During an interview with Westwood One Radio, Brady said he was “open-minded” about the next step in his career.
“I’m open-minded about the process,” Brady said. “At the same time, I love playing football and want to continue to play and do a great job. I am looking forward to what is ahead. Whatever the future may bring, I will embrace it with open arms.”
The Patriots’ owner, Robert Kraft, said he wants Brady to stay and finish his career with the team.
“My hope and prayer is, number one, he [Brady] play for the Patriots, or number two, he retires,” Kraft said earlier this month. “He has the freedom to decide what he wants to do and what’s in his own best personal interest.”
After the Patriots failed to make the playoffs this year, Brady penned an open letter to his teammates and fans, which many interpreted as a goodbye letter from the veteran quarterback.
“I just wanted to say to all of our fans, THANK YOU! After a few days of reflection, I am so grateful and humbled by the unconditional support you have shown me the past two decades,” Brady wrote.
However, Brady’s camp continues to deny rumors that he’s retiring next year.
