Researchers at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago have invented a bionic leg that can be controlled entirely by the mind of its wearer.
The leg provides a much better alternative for those who have received amputations. The bionic leg works completely in sync with your mind, and the rest of your body.
The leg is a machine, containing electrodes that are used to read brain signals coming from an amputee’s thigh. A computer in the bionic leg processes the signals traveling from the brain through the thigh, and then responds with the appropriate action.
The Goal is to make this technology available for those in need in 3-5 years. The researchers, led by Dr. Levi Hargrove, want first priority of the leg to be given to war amputees.
They are constantly working to improve the design for the leg, and even advance the leg to allow for running capabilities in the near future.
