Prince Harry and Meghan Cut Ties With Prince William and Kate’s Charity
Kensington Palace announced today that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are leaving the Royal Foundation, a charity they operated with in-laws Prince William and Kate Middleton, to start their own charity. The split fueled rumors that there’s been a lot of in-fighting among they in-laws, especially among brothers Prince Harry and Prince William.
But Kensington Palace denied those rumors. Royal spokespeople said that, as they are expected to become the future King and Queen, Wiliam and Kate have less freedom in their charitable endeavors than Harry and Meghan. A spokesman for Kensington Palace called Harry and Meghan’s departure from the charity a “collective decision.”
Will Harry and Meghan move to Africa and focus on helping the poor there? Rumors have been circulating for months that the couple is considering it. They haven’t announced any official plans yet, but the spokesman for the couple said their commitment to charity work is “paramount.”
The four young royals have teamed up for a number of charity projects. Just last month, they created a messaging app that helps young people in the United Kingdom experiencing a mental health crisis reach out for help. The Royal Foundation also helped distribute Meghan’s cookbook, which sold 130,000 copies worldwide. All proceeds went to the victims of the Greenfell Tower fire.
