Gomez thinks politicians should make stricter gun laws

After another school shooting in Santa Clarita, California, left two dead, including a 15-year-old girl and the 16-year-old gunman, Selena Gomez is vowing to take up the cause of fighting gun violence. After the shooting, Gomez took to Instagram to post her thoughts about the epidemic of gun violence in schools.

Gomez urged her fans not to “go numb” to mass shootings. She said politicians should be held accountable until they pass stricter gun control laws to prevent school violence.

“I know people speak on this a lot because of how often it happens,” Gomez wrote. “Please don’t get numb to it. I’m not sure if I can do anything but I will never stop trying…Lord I pray for protection over those affected by this heartbreaking, painful, unfair choice of someone who was severely troubled. I pray for peace that surpasses all understanding. If there’s anything I can do to help I will.”

Gomez, a former Disney Channel star, has turned her attention to political activism in recent years. Earlier this year, she directed the Netflix documentary Living Undocumented, which followed several families from Mexico and South America who crossed the border illegally and are hoping to remain in the United States.
