Norway Cruise Ship Ports After Emergency
The Viking Sky cruise ship on the route to Stavanger from Tromso and experienced a sudden engine failure on Saturday afternoon. The ship was off the Norweigan coast when the engine shut down and arrived safely back to the Molde port.
After the ship lost power, they sent a distress signal when the ship started drifting towards land. Later three of the four engines were restarted to make the safe docking in Molde.
The footage taken by passengers on the cruise ship shows that the ship was battling against the rough conditions of the sea and passengers were required to wear life vests. Nearly 500 out of 1,373 passengers were airlifted off the cruise in bad weather. The decision to airlift passengers was to ensure the safety for the passengers, while 458 crew and 436 passengers stayed on board.
The cruise ship was able to make its way back to port with the help of several tugboats. This cruise ship is apart of Viking Ocean Cruises and has operated since 2017. The cruise company released a statement saying their top priority is to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew, they will also be further investigating the cause of the engine failure.
