Cheney has stated that she does not want to be part of a party that follows Donald Trump.
Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney has been one of the most outspoken critics of former US President Donald Trump, distancing herself from the current climate of the GOP. Cheney was one of the few GOP members who voted to impeach Trump, which has made her rather unpopular in her own district. This led to her defeat in the recent Congressional elections at the hands of Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman.

In an interview over the weekend, Cheney made it clear that her own ideals no longer seem to be in line with the GOP’s, and as such, it may be time for her to reconsider her party placement. “If [Trump] is the nominee, I won’t be a Republican.”
“I certainly will do whatever it takes to make sure Donald Trump isn’t anywhere close to the Oval Office,” Cheney told the Texas Tribune.
Cheney also added that “I am going to do everything I can to make sure that Kari Lake is not elected,” referring to the Wyoming gubernatorial candidate who is an outspoken supporter of Trump’s repeated claims of 2020 election interference.

Recently, rumors have begun circulating that Cheney may be considering a run for the Presidency in 2024. When asked about this by the Texas Tribune, Cheney wouldn’t give a concrete answer.
“What are we going to do to make sure that our kids know what it means to have peaceful transfers of power?” she responded. “And what are we going to do to make sure that we don’t contribute to the unraveling of the Republic? … That’s what I’m focused on.”
